# What Vocal Steamer Do Singers Use? Only What They Have Said Publicly

No singer names a specific vocal steamer model in any public statement we could verify. What is on record is narrower: several singers say that they steam, and Ariana Grande's own 2019 caption calls her device a portable vocal steamer. None of the statements we recorded names a brand or model. Every singer source below was opened on October 11, 2026. We did not test any device, and we did not identify any product from a photo or video.

## What vocal steamer does Ariana Grande use?

No source we recorded names a brand or model. The one text of her own is the caption of an Instagram post from March 10, 2019: "me & my portable vocal steamer vs this weather & my coffee addiction" (Ariana Grande, Instagram). [Bustle](https://www.bustle.com/p/ariana-grandes-sweetener-tour-prep-photos-videos-will-get-you-so-hyped-for-her-upcoming-performances-16825182) quoted it the same day without its first words, and [LNP | LancasterOnline](https://lancasteronline.com/features/ariana-grande-appears-to-bring-biggest-fans-to-rock-lititz/article_44b21cbc-466d-11e9-ae56-8fbd46d43840.html) (March 14, 2019) embeds the post with the full caption and its timestamp.

## What vocal steamer does Sabrina Carpenter use?

She has said that she steams, not what she steams with. In the [Hot Ones episode](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msnI0D1SDSg) that First We Feast published on YouTube on July 11, 2024, the host asks whether she does anything unconventional to protect her voice. At about 6:21 she answers that she does a lot of steaming, then mentions vocal warm-ups.

![A microphone, a folded towel, a water bottle and a steaming mug on a backstage table](https://vocalsteamer.com/images/posts/what-vocal-steamer-do-singers-use-inline-1.jpg)

That wording is from YouTube's auto-generated English captions, which match the channel's French and Spanish subtitles; we did not check the audio. [PhillyVoice](https://www.phillyvoice.com/sabrina-carpenter-hot-ones-interview/) reported it the same day and added that she does this while touring, the outlet's phrase, not hers.

## What vocal steamer does Laufey use?

Her caption says vocal steaming and names no device. She posted the 48-second [TikTok video](https://www.tiktok.com/@laufey/video/7611599579905117470) from her verified account on February 27, 2026, and the same clip went up under the same title on her official YouTube channel as a [Short](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ds7Nk0S-AwM) on March 2, 2026. It shows her holding a small handheld device with a mouthpiece to her mouth, with visible mist. The audio is singing, not a spoken statement about the device.

No brand or product name is in the caption or legible in the frames we checked, so we do not call it a nebulizer or any particular kind of steamer.

## What vocal steamer does Billie Eilish use?

We found no public statement from Billie Eilish about steaming or nebulizing that we could verify, so we report nothing about what she uses.

## Other singers with a statement on record

Four more are in the table: Camila Cabello, Lorde, Idina Menzel and Melissa Errico. Idina Menzel was describing steam in a shower, not a device. Melissa Errico's answer comes from a Playbill Q&A with several performers.

We looked for other well-known singers too. Where we found no source we could open and rely on, we recorded nothing, so a name missing from this page tells you nothing about that singer. If you steam on the road yourself, [steaming your voice on tour](https://vocalsteamer.com/steaming-your-voice-on-tour/) covers the practical side.

## Steamer, humidifier, nebulizer: the sources use different words

Across these records the wording differs: a portable vocal steamer in one caption, vocal steaming over a clip of a handheld device giving off mist, a steamer, a face steamer, steam in a shower. We do not assume these are the same kind of device.

The kinds do differ. A steamer makes warm water vapor. A nebulizer makes a cool mist from a liquid, saline in the voice studies; [vocal steamer vs. nebulizer](https://vocalsteamer.com/vocal-steamer-vs-nebulizer/) sets them side by side. [Kinmilu](https://kinmilu.com/?utm_source=vocalsteamer.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=what-vocal-steamer-do-singers-use&utm_content=inline), a store run by a company affiliated with this site's owner, sells a nebulizer of that kind, the [MY139 rechargeable portable mesh nebulizer](https://kinmilu.com/products/rechargeable-mesh-nebulizer?utm_source=vocalsteamer.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=what-vocal-steamer-do-singers-use&utm_content=inline) (store listing, read October 11, 2026; solution is not included). None of the singer sources above names it, and nothing on this page suggests that any of these singers uses it.

## What a survey of professional voice users found

For a wider view than a handful of names: in a survey of 288 professional voice users in Canada published in 2024 (MacDonald, You & Fung), 86% had used at least one complementary or alternative remedy when experiencing voice loss or a negative voice change. The most common were hot drinks with honey, lemon or both, lozenges, and inhaling steam. Voice teachers and doctors most often influenced the choice.

A survey counts what people use, not what works. In Keltz & McHenry (2022), 12 women tried 3 minutes of steam, 3 minutes of straw-in-water phonation, or both as a morning warm-up. Results were highly variable: of 7 analyzed participants, steam was best for 1 and worst for 3, who strongly disliked it. Nebulized saline has a null result of its own: in Tanner et al. (2007), 60 vocally healthy women breathed dry air for 15 minutes; afterward, no nebulized treatment significantly improved recovery of the lab pressure measure tested. [Does steam help vocal cords?](https://vocalsteamer.com/does-steam-help-vocal-cords/) and our [research library](https://vocalsteamer.com/research/) go through the studies.

Nobody's routine is a reason to push through a voice problem. If steam makes you cough, stop and ask a doctor; the NIDCD says to see one if you have been hoarse for more than three weeks.

## Steam or saline mist?

Steam is warm water vapor and suits home use. A nebulizer makes a cool mist from saline instead, which is what the saline voice studies used (in one, no treatment significantly sped recovery; see above), and a battery model needs no outlet. Kinmilu portable mesh nebulizers are sold by a company affiliated with this site's owner; none of the singer sources on this page names them.
